Next Hop Resolution Protocol

Definition
NHRP

Emerging standard that is the foundation of 3Com's Fast IP. NHRP is currently under development by the Internetworking Over NBMA working group of the IETF; currently defined as an experimental protocol in RFC 1735. NHRP is not a routing protocol; it is an inter-logical independent IP subnet adress resolution protocol that provides the requesting source station with the NBMA address (MAC address) of the destination station if the destination is directly attached to the NBMA, and provides the NBMA address of the exit router that provides connectivity to the destination station if the destination is not directly attached to the NBMA.
